Rugby Legends with Arthur Dickins
Welcome to Rugby Legends – the podcast that brings you insight and advice from international players and coaches for young rugby players who are keen to learn and get better. I’m Arthur Dickins, and in each episode I sit down with amazing current and former stars of rugby to hear about their journey from first picking up a rugby ball to playing and coaching at the highest level. I get to ask them the kinds of questions that my fellow age-grade rugby players (and their coaches!) want to ask, such as: What made you pick rugby over other sports? How did you arrive in your position? How did you know you were good enough to go professional? What’s the best advice you received from a coach? How do you deal with nerves before a big game? How do you bounce back from a bad game? And lots more! If you are a young player such as me, a coach of young players, or you simply love rugby, I think you’ll really enjoy hearing the wisdom, knowledge and experience shared by these inspiring legends of the game.

What does it take to win a World Cup—not just as a player, but as the coach leading your country to victory?
In this episode of Rugby Legends, Arthur interviews Sir Clive Woodward, the coach who led England to glory in 2003. But this isn’t just about lifting trophies. It’s about the mindset behind it all. The mistakes, the habits, the leadership—and the importance of never settling for average.
Sir Clive explains how he spots potential in young players, how he teaches teams to bounce back from setbacks, and what makes a great captain. He shares moments from his playing career and how that shaped him into the coach he became. He even breaks down how to stay calm under pressure, how to keep improving when you think you’ve “made it,” and why character off the pitch matters just as much as skill on it.
If you’re 12–16 and serious about rugby, sport, or just growing as a person—this episode is full of lessons you’ll want to remember.

He also shares what makes a good team great—and how to pick a captain you can trust.
Whether you’re new to rugby or already training hard, this episode gives you real advice from one of the best. You’ll hear about the toughest opponents he ever faced, what it’s like being in charge of elite players, and the moment that made him proudest of all.

In this opening chapter, Arthur Dickins kicks off his conversation with Dan Biggar, one of Wales’ most legendary rugby players. Dan has played over 100 times for Wales, been on two British & Irish Lions tours, and captained his country. But what makes this moment special is that Dan is speaking directly to you—young players who are just starting their own rugby journeys.
Arthur explains why he started this podcast, and why he wanted Dan to be one of his very first guests. Dan shares a few highlights from his career and sets the tone for an episode full of advice, fun stories, and practical tips for anyone who loves rugby. Whether you're already playing in a club or just getting into the sport, this introduction is full of reasons to keep watching.
Dan shows that even the best players started somewhere—and that it's okay to dream big. You’ll come away knowing that legends are just people who worked hard, stayed true to themselves, and never gave up.
